"The heartbeat of Khan-Uul isn't found in its people - it's in the relentless rhythm of the mint, hammering day and night. As chief assayer, I've watched millions of Sukh coins pass across my scales. Merchants from Praga to the Jade Domain might never see Khan-Uul, but they clutch our coins like talismans. The irony isn't lost on me - a world shattered by technology now unified by primitive metal discs. Prime Guards patrol our streets in numbers seen nowhere else except the Prime Facility itself. Not for our protection of course, but for the mint's. I've seen entire scavenger clans vaporised for approaching too close to the city. The Prime AI doesn't care about Khan-Uul's people; it cares about the flow of currency that keeps its economic web intact. Remember that when you spend your Sukh - each coin is minted from the salvaged metal of the old world, underwritten in blood and enforced by a power that has control reaching far beyond its towering cloning factories."
Minerva Lin, Senior Assayer of the Khan-Uul Mint, Day 3 of The Dead Moon, 124 AP
The city of Khan-Uul lies in the shadow of the Prime Tower cloning facility.
Due to its proximity to the Prime facility, a steady stream of land-trains travels past, and sometimes through, the city of Khan-Uul.
While the Prime AI does not particularly value money, she does appreciate its importance in order for an economy of sorts to function in the desolated world. To this effect, she sanctions and protects the Khan-Uul mint, which produces the world's most commonly used currency, the "Sukh".
Clone workers toil in the heat of the factory, producing the coins that will end up being distributed throughout Asia, Europe and Northern Africa from here.
The Khan-Uul mint is run by the Khatun Bōrte, a prestigious title and position that is often violently contested. The latest Khatun is young and has the scars to prove she fought hard for this position - she is expected to stay in power as the Master of the Mint for many years to come.
The Khatun Bōrte is the de facto ruler of Khan-Uul. While the office of mayor exists, it would be foolish for anyone to stand in the way of the Master of the Mint, who has the power and protection of the Prime AI behind them.
In no small part due to the mint, Khan-Uul is a regional trading hub. Scavengers from far and wide come here to sell their wares to the traders of the city. They are paid in freshly minted coins, which they carry back into the desolated lands where they enter into circulation among the various clans and tribes that trade with one another.
Many trade caravans enter and leave the city every day.
A city that attracts many traders and commerce also attracts mercenaries - those traders that can afford it, will hire mercenaries for their trade caravans, especially if they intend to travel far into the west or the south.
The mercenary business is so lucrative, that even naturally born men and re-programmed war automatons can be found offering their services, although usually alongside ex-military clones
The streets of Khan-uul are always busy. Besides the many traders and mercenaries, monks and workers from the mint are also a common sight.
But there can never be any doubt as to who really controls the fate of Khan-Uul. Its important role for the economy and its proximity to the cloning facility mean, that the city is always under the gaze of the Prime AI, and Prime Guards are ever present in the streets.
