Originally driven by science and military research, the Cybernetics can trace their origins to pre-Collapse experiments in enhancement technologies and trans-humanism.
Their expertise allowed them to maintain and adapt cybernetic technology through the Great Collapse, making themselves a force to be reckoned with. Making their homes in large mobile fortresses, they became nomadic as society fell.
Early on, they attracted followers seeking the power and survival advantages of cyber-enhancements. This forged a culture valuing strength and pragmatism over ideology. Cybernetics are therefore flexible in their beliefs and social structures, unlike the more rigid Geneticists.
Cybernetic leadership is based around an oligarchy of the first cybernetically enhanced Elders who dominate the faction through experience and technological expertise. Younger generations and recruits seek to prove themselves to the Elders and rise through the faction ranks via acts of courage and embracing risky enhancements.
Their best warriors are a blend of human cunning and machine precision, feared and revered by others. Many hope to attain this status one day, but not everyone survives the rigours of intrusive bodily enhancement followed by the trials of the battlefield.
With their nomadic nature and almost situational beliefs, the Cybernetics often pose a wildcard in regional power struggles. Their ultimate goals can be hard for outsiders to decipher.
